Manchester United are in a bit of turmoil and Conor McGregor tweeted he wants to buy them

Conor McGregor is one of the richest athletes in the world and the UFC star keeps making the bucks outside of the fight game too.

He has been successful in many of his projects and seems to have another on his mind. McGregor has spoken about his love of football in the past and even supports his pub team.

However, the Notorious One seems to be keen on dipping his hands into something bigger. McGregor tweeted that he was thinking of buying Manchester United, one of the biggest football clubs in the world.

“Hey guys, I’m thinking about buying Manchester United!

“What do you think?”

This all is coming from the fallout of the failed European Super League. Manchester United, along with five other English clubs. some Spanish and Italian ones decided to break away from the Champions League and form their own tournament.

This wouldn’t require the founding 15 members to qualify for the tournament while five others would get to feature in it. Although the clubs were keen to play in their domestic leagues, UEFA, the European footballing body, and other national bodies slammed this decision.

All of these bodies threatened that the clubs would be kicked out of all competitions and the players would be banned from playing in the World Cup. All of this failed as the ESL came to an abrupt halt and Ed Woodward, the Manchester United vice-chairman resigned.

Is Conor McGregor really going to buy Manchester United?

While McGregor is one of the richest sports-stars in the world, it is highly unlikely he would be able to buy United. Firstly, United are worth over $4billion and the Glazer family would be crazy to let go of one of the biggest clubs in the world.

United have won the most English league titles and have some of the most marketable stars on their roster too. Further, McGregor doesn’t have that much money to spend, unless he gets some help from some of his other financiers.

This could have been a bit of a joke from McGregor but many fans seemed excited at the prospect. Some, however, posted some hilarious jokes regarding this and here are a few of those posts from social media.
