Rose Namajunas won back the UFC Strawweight title with an incredible kick to Zhang Weili

UFC 261 certainly lived up to expectations with some incredible fights on the main card. While the first two fights ended due to injuries, with Chris Weidman’s shocking the world.

However, the third fight saw Valentina Shevchenko dominate her rival, Jessica Andrade and keep the title.

The fourth fight on the card was another title defence with Zhang Weili putting her Strawweight title on the line.

Weili was undefeated in her UFC career and had been on a 21-fight win streak. However, the Chinese star was against one of the toughest in the world in Rose Namajunas.

Rose is a former champion in the division but lost the gold to Jessica Andrade in 2019. Thug Rose defeated Andrade next and got her title shot.

While this was expected to be a close fight, it really wasn’t. Rose put up on huge kick on Weili in the first round and the champion was down.

Rose went in for the kill and landed a few punches before the referee called the fight off. Zhang was unhappy with the stoppage but the kick was a huge one and she really wasn’t in the fight.

Rose Namajunas creates UFC history

This was a huge win for Namajunas as she thought about retiring when she lost to Andrade a few years back.

The new champion decided to also bury the hatchet regarding some unflattering things she had said about China and Weili.

However, Thug Rose also created a bit of history with this win. Ariel Helwani of ESPN confirmed that Namajunas was the first woman in the UFC to win the same title back twice after losing it.

Namajunas hasn’t fought a lot in the UFC but she is still a huge star. Thug has a record of 10 wins and four losses and it will be interesting to see who she puts the title up against next.
