Anderson Silva has been around in the sport of MMA for more than 20 years
Silva is currently 46. It is safe to say, not one in the sport of MMA would bring in the legion of experience that the ‘Spider’ would bring.
There are fighters who retire at 30, and then there is Silva, who was at the top of his game, even when he reached 38. ‘All good things come to an end’, and likewise, Silva’s career began to fade after that.
After turning 38, Silva has fought 9 times, and has managed to win just once. Following a string of defeats, and unable to get back to winning ways, Silva struggled to revive his career.
He was ultimate released from the UFC after his loss against Uriah Hall in October, last year.
Though the Brazilian stated after his release that he was open to fighting in other promotions, he has recently claimed in an interview with Ariel Helwani that “he’s done with MMA”.
The Spider told Helwani:
“I think MMA for me is done. It’s hard to train MMA. It’s hard to stay training at a good level because you hurt yourself a lot. Now, I just try to enjoy. I don’t need to prove nothing for anybody. I just try to enjoy every single moment.”
Anderson Silva has a boxing match coming up with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Anderson Silva, however, has got his hands full in boxing right now. He is set to take on Mexican boxer Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. on the 19th of June, this year.
The contest will be a 10 round pro-boxing match, set to take place at Estadio Jalisco, Guadalajara, Mexico.
This will not be Silva’s debut, since he has already two pro-boxing fights to his name. His debut came way back in May 1998, against Osmar Luiz Teixeira. He lost the fight via. first round RTD.
He then faced fellow Brazilian Julio Cesar de Jesus in 2005, earning his first victory as a pro-boxer, winning via. KO in the second round.
The fight against Chavez Jr. will be his third boxing bout, and a first in almost 16 years.
