Stephen Thompson says hopes to avoid surgery as he gives the latest update on his knee injury

UFC welterweight fighter Stephen Thompson has proved the latest update on the knee injury which he suffered at UFC Vegas 17.

Thompson returned to the UFC after almost a year out from an injury and fought Geoff Neal on December 19th. He won by unanimous decision as he dominated the fight from start to finish.

‘Wonderboy’ had impeccable control of the ring and had the upper hand in every one of the 5 rounds. After the fight, Thompson even said that he hoped for an even better result and that Neal was a resilient opponent.

However, one downside to that match for Wonderboy was a knee injury that he suffered. The issue was brought up inside the octagon as Thompson indicated the issue to his corner.

He had a swollen knee which resulted in an ice pack being placed on it between rounds.

Stephen Thompson stays optimistic in his latest knee injury update

We finally have some clarity as to what the issue actually was. Thompson spoke about his knee injury on his YouTube channel where he addressed what he thinks of the injury.

He stated that an MRI scan will be done on his leg and he hopes that it’s not an issue with the tendon.

“Now my quad, I haven’t had an MRI on that. MRI will find out what the damage is there… Hopefully, it’s not a tendon tear.”

If it is a tendon tear, then it would obviously require a surgery and will need a longer time to heal. On top of that, it may even take away some agility from Wonderboy’s game.

Stephen Thompson is considered as the nicest MMA star in the world

But hopefully it does not come to that. Thompson only just returned from injury and won the Performance of the Night at UFC Vegas 17.

He believed that 2021 could see him finally land the UFC title too and even called out Jorge Masvidal after the win over Neal.
