Paulo Costa chimes in on Corey Anderson’s comparison of UFC and Bellator pay

UFC middleweight Paulo Borrachinha weighed in on the recent UFC and Bellator pay comparison.

Talks of UFC fighters being paid less have always been ubiquitous in the MMA community. Despite being the number one mixed martial arts promotion company, we see UFC fighters expressing their dismay at not being paid enough.

For quite a while, the talks of a meagre pay hadn’t been vociferously expressed. But former UFC light-heavyweight and current Bellator fighter Corey Anderson set the ball rolling once again.

After losing a crunch match against Jan Blachowicz at UFC Fight Night in February 2020, Anderson asked for a release from the UFC and signed a multi-fight deal with Bellator. He has since fought twice, beating Melvin Manhoef on debut, and Dovletdzhan Yagshimuradov, last week.

After beating Yagshimuradov, Anderson tweeted that he had made double the amount of money he made in 15 UFC fights (over a span of 7 years), by just winning two fights in the Bellator.

His Tweet went quite viral and more recently UFC middleweight Paulo Costa chimed in on this UFC and Bellator pay comparison.

Has Paulo Costa’s recent illness cost him dear

Paulo Costa was scheduled to take on Robert Whittaker on the 17th of April, last week. One month prior to the fight Costa withdrew due to illness and was replaced by Kelvin Gastelum.

Whittaker put on a clinic and went on to win the match. He thereby cemented his position as the number one ranked middleweight contender. And, at the post-fight interview, he called out Israel Adesanya for a rematch.

Both Costa and Whittaker have lost to Adesanya – both being title matches. In fact, Adesanya made light work of both the top ranked middleweights.

Had Costa not withdrawn from the fight and beaten Whittaker, he could have got a second chance for a shot at the title. But now it looks like he has missed the bus, and might have to wait a little longer to have another go at the title.
