Nick Diaz couldn’t continue at UFC 266 and could have suffered a broken nose against Robbie Lawler

The much anticipated UFC 266 fight between Nick Diaz and Robbie Lawler delivered, even though it ended a couple of rounds shot.

This clash was a rematch from 17 years back and it was Lawler who picked up the win. Lawler lost to Diaz in their first outing and he came into this clash not as a crowd favourite.

Diaz was cheered throughout the clash and it didn’t come as a surprise that the UFC great started off on fire.

Both legends started throwing punches and Lawler was not holding back at all. He kept following Diaz and didn’t give his rival any space in the first two rounds.

However, things didn’t work out for Diaz in his rematch against Lawler. The fight went into the third round and Ruthless got a couple of great hits on his rival.

Diaz got a couple of punches to the nose and was down for the count. Lawler walked away as he wanted Diaz to get up but referee Jason Herzog called the fight off.

On replays it was confirmed that Diaz was the one who stopped the fight and didn’t respond to the referee’s call.

Diaz was seen holding his nose after the battle and he was bleeding from it. The nose was swollen also and Diaz referred to not wanted to mess up the Octagon with more blood.

The nose could have been broken but there is no official confirmation of the same. Many fans and reporters have suggested he could have broken his nose, but Diaz did have some great moments in the fight.

Diaz was magnanimous in defeat and claimed he had no excuses and it will be interesting to see if he returns anytime soon.
