The UFC has extended old-timer Nate Diaz’s contract
All the uncertainty surrounding Nate Diaz’s future have allegedly been laid to rest after it was reported that the UFC has extended the veteran’s contract.
The news was first reported by Ariel Helwani on Substack Page. He wrote:
“Sounds like the UFC is moving on from Khamzat Chimaev vs. Nathan Diaz fight and, as a result, have extended Diaz’s contract. I think they knew that would happen and were hoping to buy time for when Conor McGregor is ready to return later this year. Diaz hasn’t signed any new deal yet, so that, too, is a fascinating story to watch next year.”
Diaz, last fought Leon Edwards in a five-round non-title fight at UFC 263. After having been dominated by Edwards for four rounds, Diaz almost turned the fight on its head in the last minute of the final round. However, Edwards held on and won via. unanimous decision.
Nate Diaz vs Conor McGregor trilogy next?
Now that Nate Diaz has extended his contract, a trilogy fight against his old rival Conor McGregor looms large. The pair previously fought twice in 2016.
It was Diaz who gained the upper hand after stunning McGregor via. a second-round submission win at UFC 196. It was McGregor’s first loss in the UFC.
A couple of months later, McGregor earned a narrow decision win over Diaz to even out the rivalry. Almost 6 years later, the fight between the two makes a lot of sense.
