The contract is yet to be signed, but both parties are very well ready to put pen to paper, according to sources.

The news was first reported by Raphael Marinho of MMA da Globo and later confirmed by Brett Okamoto of ESPN.

His tweet read:

“Confirmed, UFC working on Khamzat Chimaev’s (@KChimaev) return against Li Jingliang (@UfcJingliang) for UFC 267 in October. Not signed, but both sides are agreeable to it, per sources. The Wolf vs. The Leech at 170 pounds.”

Khamzat Chimaev will be returning after a year

Khamzat Chimaev was on a roll last year. He joined the UFC in July 2020, and went 3-0 up in just two months. His vicious knockout of Gerald Meerschaert was a sign of things to come.

He was scheduled to face Leon Edwards. That’s when COVID-19 struck both the fighters. While Edwards, recovered quite quickly, Chimaev was battered by the lingering effects of the dreadful disease.

He even considered retirement at one point, such was the distress the disease caused. However, he somehow made his way back, and is all set to return now.

Number 12 ranked welterweight Li Jingliang is coming off a victory over Santiago Ponzinibbio, earlier this year. The tough-as-nails Chinese has never been finished in a fight before.

Chimaev will be wary of the threat the Chinese poses, and will be looking forward to living up to the hype surrounding him.
