Kamaru Usman showed the world at UFC 261, why it was high-time they included his name in the GOAT debate

Usman bulldozed Jorge Masvidal in the main event of UFC 261 to successfully defend his welterweight title for the fourth time.

A massive straight right hand in the second round, knocked Masvidal out cold, for the very first time in his UFC career. With that win Usman inched closer to Anderson Silva’s record for the most consecutive wins in the UFC (16 wins).

Just three more wins, and Usman will break the all-time record of the biggest MMA promotion in the world. The Nigerian Nightmare had already gone past Georges St-Pierre’s record for the most consecutive wins in the welterweight division.

It will only be a matter of time before Usman finds himself at the apex of UFC.

UFC commentator Jon Anik chimed in on Usman going all the way to becoming the GOAT. Speaking in an interview with Mike Heck of MMA Fighting, Anik first acknowledged Usman’s splendid victory against Masvidal.

Anik then agreed with UFC President Dana White’s claims of Usman becoming the greatest mixed martial artist of all time, saying that the Nigerian clearly looks like a guy destined to become the GOAT.

Anik was quoted as saying:

“Near perfect performance from Kamaru…A tremendous right hand. Just a tremendous fighter. I think when Dana White suggests that Kamaru Usman appears to be on a trajectory to become the greatest mixed martial arts athlete of all time, he’s not wrong. It looks to me like we are looking at a guy who is destined for undisputed GOAT type greatness.”

Jorge Masvidal impressed with Kamaru Usman’s knockout blow against him at UFC 261

Masvidal might have been knocked out for the first time in his UFC career. It was hard for fight fans to see someone with a granite chin like Masvidal, go down like that.

But Gamebred took the loss like a champion, gave props to Usman on his victory, and what’s more- He even became a fan of the massive right hand Usman landed on him to knock him out.

Masvidal then said he loved the sport of MMA because it was purely Man vs Man, before going on to say that he never ever imagined in his wildest of dreams that Usman would knock him out like that.

Now that’s how you take an L. Hopefully, Masvidal will bounce back soon.
