Fans react to Anshul Jubli’s spectacular victory at UFC Vegas 68
Anshul Jubli bagged the coveted UFC contract with a spectacular TKO victory in the second round against Jeka Saragih in the Road to UFC finals. Thanks to his victory, Anshul has also secured a contract with the UFC, making him only the second Indian, after Bharat Khandare, to do so for the world’s largest mixed martial arts promotion company. Also, he’s the only fighter of Indian descent to ever win a battle under the Ultimate Fighting Championship banner.
In both rounds, Anshul was in control of the action and landed the majority of his blows. In the opening exchange, the Indonesian sought to annoy Anshul by making a mocking face, while the Indian tried to ignore him.
Anshul was quick to respond to the gesture by launching a savage attack on Saragih and ultimately bringing him to the ground. While grappling, he held the Indonesian in place and continued to throw strikes. Saragih, now in a precarious position, unsuccessfully attempted to break the grip by striking Anshul with his elbows. The Indonesian was able to break free of the grapple with 40 seconds left in the first round. The round ended with Anshul ahead of his opponent.
When the fight went to a second and ultimately decisive round, Saragih came out swinging. After Anshul recovered, he kicked him in the body, but eventually he was able to regain control. This time, Anshul took his opponent down from behind with a rear naked choke and kneed him several times. Then, in a similar fashion, he took him down and pounded on his head until the referee stopped the bout at 3 minutes and 44 seconds.
An ecstatic Anshul Jubli took center stage to announce that India has arrived in the UFC:
“I’ve dominated this fight, that’s why I’m here. Why Indian fighters deserve to win the UFC? I’m going to keep evolving, I want to keep grinding, and my plan is to be the best in the world and I’ll do whatever it needs to be done.”
