Gilbert Burns sets timeline for fight against Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman

Gilbert Burns was impressive in his dominant win over Tyron Woodley

UFC Welterweight star Gilbert Burns put on a show as he destroyed former champion Tyron Woodley on Fight Night.

The Brazilian was excellent throughout and even knocked down Woodley a couple of times. Woodley also suffered a nasty looking cut above his eye, but was able to continue.

The win might have been his most impressive yet, and Burns sent out a message to the Welterweight champion Kamaru Usman:

“I want to fight for the title. A lot of respect, a lot of love for you. But, I think I am next. I am next, I am right there.”

The Brazilian also spoke about the possible timeline for the title fight, and wanted it to be in July:

“I want to fight for the title, I am next. If they want to make a fight in July come on.”

“I can fight on July, I want to fight for the title.”

Burns vs Usman?

The pair train together and it will be interesting to see if the Brazilian does meet Usman next.

However, Jorge Masvidal and Leon Edwards are two stars that have been linked with a fight against Usman.

Edwards was to face Woodley before the Covid-19 pandemic, and the British star is stuck in England.

Burns certainly proved his point and a fight in a couple of months does seem to be a little quick. However, Usman hasn’t defended his title since defeating Colby Covington a while back. There are talks of Usman facing Conor McGregor too and that would be a huge clash for the UFC.

Burns was congratulated by Usman after the fight, and the UFC have some big decisions to make regarding the Welterweight division.
