Georges St-Pierre, ‘GSP’ was unmatched during his UFC prime

It has been almost four years since Georges St-Pierre last stepped inside the Octagon. The UFC welterweight legend retired with a 13-fight win streak, also winning the middleweight title on his MW debut, which was his last fight.

Considered to be one of the greatest UFC fighters of all time, let alone one of the greatest welterweights of all time, GSP ruled the roost in the late 2000s and early 2010s.

He announced his retirement in 2019 and in 2020 was inducted into the Modern Wing of the UFC Hall of Fame.

Over the last few years, it looks like there has been a new challenger worthy enough to dismount GSP’s greatness – Kamaru ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ Usman.

Usman, who is the reigning welterweight champion in the UFC recently went past Georges St-Pierre’s record for the most consecutive wins in the UFC (13 wins), after beating Gilbert Burns at UFC 258.

Usman is currently on a 14-fight win streak in the UFC. He recently beat Jorge Masvidal at UFC 261 and has defended his welterweight title four times.

St-Pierre told Bleacher Report:

“I think Usman, right now, is the best pound-for-pound. In terms of performance, I think he’s one of the best right now and he’s an active competitor.” [via Bleacher Report]

Usman might face number one ranked welterweight contender Colby Covington next, or face the winner of the upcoming co-main event fight at UFC 264 between Stephen Thompson and Gilbert Burns.
