Dustin is coming off a submission loss against Charles Oliveira at UFC 269 for the lightweight title. This was the second time Poirier tried to get his hands on the coveted UFC gold and came short.

Ever since that fight Dustin has closed the doors on his lightweight career and opened up to the idea of a welterweight jump. He has emphasized on several occasions that the only fight that makes him want to get out of his bed and train, is a fight against the ‘Stockton Slugger’ Nate Diaz.

“I want the fight, and he wants it, as well,” Poirier told reporters at UFC 271. “I have no clue (what’s going on). On my side, let’s go. On his side and the UFC’s, they have to get it figured out. But I’m ready to rock.”

Although talks of the fight keep circulating, Poirier is adamant that the fight will come to pass.

“I think there’s a good chance it’s going to happen,” Poirier said. “I think summer is a good target if I had to put one on the calendar. I’m not sure, but I have a good feeling is going to happen.

“I’m not sure if I’m going to stay at 170 pounds, but this fight makes sense. I just want to be in fights that mean something to me. Nate is a guy that I grew up watching fight. I respect him and his brother (Nick). I think stylistically, it’s a fun fight for the fans. This is a Fight of the Year-type of fight, and those are the fights I want to be a part of.”

Dustin Poirier hilariously reacts to an internet fact on Twitter

Dustin Poirier has sure kept himself busy these days by lobbying for a fight against Nate Diaz, promoting his hot sauce and working relentlessly for The Good Fight Foundation.

He has also been spending time on Twitter interacting with fans and self-reflecting on his losses and past wars. Poirier had a rib-tickling reaction to a fact that he came across which stated – “Giving birth is the second most painful thing a human can experience – The first is being burned alive.

Poirier replied by saying:

“Yeah.. ever lost 2 title fights by RNC??”

The UFC is reportedly working on a date to get Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz inside the octagon. The matchup has all the right elements for a potential ‘Fight of the Night’.
