‘Yes from me’ – Derek Brunson willing to fight Sean Strickland after proposing the fight initially

Sean Strickland aims to bounce back from his loss against Alex Pereira, and a fight against Derek Brunson seems like a viable option

While Sean Strickland stole the show at UFC 276 press conference, his actual fight experience was rather forgettable. Strickland got knocked out brutally by kickboxing whizz Alex Pereira, who broke into the top ten, and landed the next shot at the title with this victory. Although Strickland could’ve opted to pick a fight with a less threatening, higher ranked, stylistically better match-up, his death-or-glory mentality has won the fan’s hearts. He has also graciously taken the loss on his chin and looks to bounce back soon.

Fellow middleweight fighter Derek Brunson, who’s coming off a loss to Jared Cannonier aims to reanimate his career himself. In a recent interview, he stated that a fight against Sean Strickland makes perfect sense since both fighters are coming off losses.

Sean Strickland spoke to MMA reporter Helen Yee recently, and she presented the idea of this matchup. Strickland understands that he is far from the title picture currently, and has to revitalize his career to land another opportunity.

Addressing the idea of this particular match-up Strickland said, “I will fight any motherf..ker in the UFC,” Strickland told Helen Yee. “Everybody in the UFC knows that. I’m down. What’s he ranked? I would way rather fight up. I have to climb the ladder, I’m a couple fights away from the title fight, so let’s climb the ladder. Is he just gonna be one of the rungs on the ladder that I gotta climb? Who knows.”

Derek Brunson is onboard with the idea of a fight with Sean Strickland

Derek Brunson is coming off a devastating loss to Jared Cannonier at UFC 271. Although he dominated pretty much the whole fight, Cannonier caught him with a good shot, and brutally knocked him out with vicious elbows.

Reacting to Strickland’s interview, Brunson wrote on Twitter, ‘Sean Strickland that’s a yes from me 🤚🏾’

Will this be another classic wrestler vs striker fight is a question for the future.
