Exactly a year ago Khabib Nurmagomedov announced his retirement from the sport of MMA

It has been a year since the great Khabib Nurmagomedov announced his retirement.

Following a win over Justin Gaethje in the main event of UFC 254, Khabib shocked the world at the post-fight interview with Jon Anik stating that he would not be able to compete without his late father by the ringside and also that he had promised his mother that the Gaethje fight would be his last.

The record stood at 29-0. He had hardly even lost a single round against an opponent. Such was his greatness.

Now that it has been a year since his retirement, his dear friend, former fighter, current analyst and former training partner at the AKA Gym, Daniel Cormier took to social media to reminisce ‘The Eagle’s one-year retirement anniversary.

Calling Khabib, the GOAT, Cormier wrote:

“A year ago today the GOAT walked away from the game undefeated, undisputed champion of the world. Miss these times brother and can’t wait to see you in Abu Dhabi. He could have gone 40-0, 50-0 or whatever he chose, he chose 29. No one was beating this man.@TeamKhabib #weareAKA.”
