“A tier beneath” – DC doesn’t believe Jon Jones should get the same pay as Conor McGregor

The fight pay of Conor McGregor in the UFC has been unparalleled

Jon Jones is currently in a tussle with the UFC and its president Dana White. He hasn’t fought since relinquishing his light-heavyweight title during August, last year.

Jones moved to the heavyweight division that same month, in a bid for bigger quests and challenges. However, only this year did talks of him making his debut in the heavyweight division began.

Bones is expected to face the heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, but the fight’s negotiations have come to a standstill due to Jones’ exorbitant fight purse demands, and an eventual dispute with Dana White.

Francis Ngannou vs Jon Jones could happen in the future
Jon Jones has spoken about fighting Francis Ngannou in the past.

Jones is rumoured to have demanded a ludicrous $30 million to fight Ngannou, which was publicly revealed by White, creating a verbal war in itself.

In the latest episode of DC & Helwani’s MMA Show, Ariel Helwani asked Daniel Cormier if Jones’ deserved that huge a fight purse. While DC did say that he deserved it, he brought up comparisons with the showman Conor McGregor.

Cormier felt that Jones was a notch below than the Irishman when it comes to the value he brings to the company.

DC said:

“Jones shouldn’t make what Conor McGregor makes. If Conor McGregor makes something in that range, Jones shouldn’t make what McGregor makes. It should be a tier beneath that. I do believe that McGregor – there should be a difference in the pay scale because of what he has meant to the company.”

DC says Jon Jones deserves to make what Khabib Nurmagomedov makes

Despite telling that Jones doesn’t deserve to make what Conor McGregor makes, Cormier seemed accepting of the fact that his nemesis at least deserves to make what Khabib makes.

There is no doubt that Khabib’s pay is second only to the ‘Notorious One’.

In the same interview, saying that Khabib’s pay was somewhere in the range of 8 to 10 million USD, Cormier seemed approving of his old rival’s demands.

DC said:

“Does Jon Jones make what Khabib makes, if Khabib makes 8 to 10 [Million USD], yes!”
