The UFC President cleared the air on the controversy surrounding the release of Diego Sanchez

39-year old Diego Sanchez who has been a part of the UFC since 2005 was released from the promotion yesterday. ‘The Nightmare’ was scheduled to take on Donald Cerrone on the 8th of May, next weekend, but was still pulled out from the fight due to his immediate release.

Sanchez, one of the few fighters to have competed in four different weight classes, wasn’t surprised with the decision as he posted a story on Instagram saying he was ‘Free at Last’.

However, the fight fans were left wondering why a veteran like Sanchez was released just before his possible farewell fight.

UFC President Dana White cleared the air on the mystery surrounding Sanchez’s ‘rushed’ release. White told Brett Okamoto that Sanchez’s head coach Joshua Fabia had wanted every medical document the UFC had received during his 15-year long career, ahead of his fight against Cerrone.

That was when, on further questioning Sanchez’s lawyer had revealed that Sanchez couldn’t ensure that his health was not compromised, since he didn’t undergo any recent neurological evaluation as well.

And hence, White and the UFC decided to terminate Sanchez’s contract and cancel the fight.

Michael Chiesa has an opponent lined up for Diego Sanchez

Soon as the news of Diego Sanchez’s release from the UFC spread, top ranked welterweight Michael Chiesa jokingly posted a GIF of Jake Paul on Twitter implying that Sanchez’s next opponent was set.

Paul has been creating a name for himself as a professional boxer. He is currently 3-0 in his boxing career, with his last win coming against former UFC fighter Ben Askren.

Despite Paul’s callouts being aimed at all the famous and elite fighters, The Problem Child mostly fights washed athletes, which is exactly why Chiesa seems to be hinting at a possible Sanchez-Paul fight.
