Velasquez was arrested earlier this month after a public shooting that left one person injured. However, the court came under fire for keeping the UFC legend and opting to release suspected child molester Harry Goularte, who was Velasquez’s intended target.

Velasquez allegedly fired several gunshots at a car in which Goularte was present. It is believed that the pro wrestler chased down the vehicle and targeted Goularte in San Jose, who is also being charged with molesting one of Velasquez’s young relatives.

Goularte’s stepfather, Paul Bender, who was also in the vehicle at the time of the shooting was hit by one of the gunshots in his arm and torso. However, his injuries were not life-threatening.

Dan Hooker speaks out on Cain Velasquez’s case

Earlier on Monday, it was revealed that Velasquez was denied bail by the Santa Clara County Court in his attempted murder case. Judge Shelyna Brown imposed the verdict after Velasquez was arrested on February 29.

Following the verdict, several MMA stars, notably from the UFC sent their support towards Velasquez. On Thursday, featherweight fighter Dan Hooker also took some time out to show his backing for the 39-year-old Velasquez.

In a recent interview with It’s Time For Sports, Hooker was asked about his thoughts on Velasquez and ‘The Hangman’ explained why Velasquez did not deserve to go to prison, “We all say we will do that exactly. He [Cain Velasquez] went out and did it, you know what I mean? Good on him… Should give that man a medal, not a bloody prison sentence.” said Hooker.

Velasquez had an impressive 14-3 MMA record. He won the heavyweight championship twice in his career. His last fight in the Octagon was back in 2019, which ended in a defeat against Francis Ngannou.
