Conor McGregor brushed off Nick Diaz concerns ahead of the latter’s match against Robbie Lawler

Come this Saturday, at the T-Mobile Arena, Nick Diaz will take on Robbie Lawler at UFC 266 in a five-round non-title fight.

The pair will be facing off in a rematch – 17 years in the making. They last fought at UFC 47, way back in April 2004, with Diaz winning the fight via. TKO.

It has been almost 7 years since, Diaz’s last bout, and concerns about him stepping inside the Octagon have been expressed by a few.

Famed MMA Journalist Ariel Helwani was one among those expressing concern about Diaz stepping inside the cage.

Replying to Oscar Willis‘ Tweet that quoted Diaz wanting to fight Kamaru Usman and not Lawler, Helwani wrote:

“As I’ve been openly wondering, is Nick fighting because he wants to or because he has to? If we were all being honest, we all know. He hasn’t liked fighting for years. He deserves better than all of this, and I hope he can find peace and be safe. It all feels weird.”

Conor McGregor responds to Ariel Helwani amidst Nick Diaz concerns

Conor McGregor who shares one of the greatest modern-day MMA rivalries with Nick Diaz’s younger brother Nate Diaz, was pumped to see Nick back in action.

He also played down Helwani expressing concerns about Diaz, saying that he would pray that the fighters come out safe and healthy.

McGregor’s Tweet read:

“Relax, it’s a scrap, he loves it. Great to see Nick back. And Robbie. It is a perfect match! I pray for both a solid performance, a great fight, and safe and healthy the next morning with all the beautiful memories and experiences this mad buzz gives them / us / me. God Bless.”

Helwani did not stop there, still expressing his doubt that Diaz might be forcing himself into a dangerous sport.

His reply read:

“I understand & very much respect that mentality. But what if he doesn’t love it? What if he hasn’t for years? This sport is too dangerous, as you know, to not be all in. I have great respect and admiration for Nick. He is one of the best ever. Just hope he still wants to do this.”
