Glover Teixeira became the light-heavyweight champion after beating Jan Blachowicz at UFC 267

The underdog Glover Teixeira defied all odds to beat Jan Blachowicz at UFC 267 to win the light-heavyweight title at the ripe old age of 42.

The man from Brazil waited twenty long years to get his hands on the title, and he deserved every bit of it.

Following a brilliant start with a takedown in the first round, Teixeira finished the round with total ground control on the champ.

Just when it looked like Blachowicz was getting back to the groove, Teixeira had the Pole locked with a tight rear-naked choke in the second round.

Blachowicz tapped out in seconds, and the brilliant Teixeira had the LHW belt wrapped around his waist moments later, even as his emotional wife looked on.

Following Teixeira’s inspiring win, a legion of MMA stars and experts congratulated him. And more recently, UFC lightweight Conor McGregor took to Twitter to shower heaps of praise on the Brazilian.

McGregor tweeted:

“The oldest first time champion in UFC history, Glover Teixeira! Just wow!
Proper Motivation!”
