Conor McGregor came third in the 2021 combat sports rich list as he was bested by two boxers

Conor McGregor had an eventful year. He earned a truckload of money through endorsements (a majority from Proper No.12 whiskey) and finished as the highest-earning athlete of 2021.

However, his on-court earnings were bested by some usual suspects. In the combat sports 2021 rich list, McGregor came third after earning 36.4 million in Euros.

McGregor’s first fight of 2021 was at UFC 257. He took on Dustin Poirier and was beaten by ‘The Diamond’ by TKO in Round 2. He earned 14.4 million Euros that night.

6 months later he faced Poirier once again, this time at UFC 264 in the trilogy fight. Despite a first-round TKO loss (by means of doctor stoppage), McGregor bagged a staggering 22 million Euros.

Canelo Alvarez tops the list

Mexican boxer Canelo Alvarez topped the list with 65.7 million Euros. He fought thrice in 2021. The first of his three opponents was Avni Yildrim. Alvarez earned 10 million Euros for his win. For his wins over Billy Joe Saunders and Caleb Plant he earned 25 million Euros and 29.6 million Euros respectively.
