Chris Weidman has been recovering from his nasty injury suffered at UFC 261

With many dreams, Chris Weidman stepped inside the Octagon at UFC 261. The All American faced the once-feared Uriah Hall in a middleweight contest.

Just 17 seconds into the round, Weidman attempted a leg kick which snapped his leg in half. And as soon as Weidman landed his right foot, it bent like cucumber and had him grimacing in pain.

The fight was waved off immediately, with Hall becoming the first ever fighter to win a contest without landing a single strike.

Weidman was rushed off to the hospital and was operated the next day. He has been recovering quite quickly, posting regular updates on Instagram, Twitter and even on his YouTube channel.

Chris Weidman is elated to be back in the gym

Just a month ago, Weidman stated that his leg would never return to normal. But very soon he began walking in a treadmill, around the house and a few other activities.

In the recent episode of Michael Bisping’s Believe You Me Podcast, Weidman broke the news that he had gone to the gym that day and even hit the bag for a while.

An elated Weidman revealed:

“I will say, this is breaking news – I was actually in the gym today. I boxed a little bit… I figured I was going to go to the gym and hit the bag for like a minute and then put my leg up, elevate it and just chill out, just be happy to be in the gym, but there were some guys around and we started playing sparring and I am like, ‘Man, this is awesome!’ It felt so good to be back in the gym. So that was a big day for me, but it’s been a crazy road.”

Anderson Silva suffered a very similar injury against Weidman in December 2013. Almost a year later he returned at UFC 183 (31st of Jan 2015) where he faced Nate Diaz. Silva won the fight via. unanimous decision (later turned to a no-contest).

Hence, Weidman will be looking at the brighter side of things, as he hopes to make a comeback probably.
