Nate Diaz vs Leon Edwards at UFC 262 was postponed after Nate Diaz suffered an injury
‘Stockton Slugger’ Nate Diaz was all set to make a return to the octagon at UFC 262 against Leon Edwards, but fate had other plans as he suffered an injury, and the fight was postponed by a month.
The fight is now expected to take place at UFC 263 which is headlined by a middleweight title bout between Israel Adesanya and Marvin Vettori.
His last appearance in the octagon came way back in November 2019 at UFC 244, when he fought for the BMF title against Jorge Masvidal.
Speaking in the latest episode of Ariel and The Bad Guy, Ariel Helwani pointed out that this was the first time Diaz has pulled out of a fight due to an injury. And, hence Helwani felt that the injury must definitely be a significant one/
Helwani addressed Chael Sonnen:
“This is very rare for Nathan Diaz. He has never pulled out of a fight due to an injury before. Now we don’t know exactly what the injury is.”
Before clarifying that Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz at UFC 230 was canceled for a different reason, Helwani continued:
“He is actually withdrawing due to an injury. So that seems significant.”
First 5 round non-title fight tri-main event in UFC history
Nate Diaz vs Leon Edwards at UFC 262 was supposed to be the first 5 round non-title fight in UFC history.
Now that the fight has been rescheduled to UFC 263, it will be the first 5 round non-title fight tri-main event in UFC history.
UFC 263, features two title bouts which will be the main and the co-main events. It is headlined by Israel Adesanya vs Marvin Vettori, and the co-main event is a rematch between flyweights Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno.
