Anderson Silva takes on Julio Cesar Chavez in a boxing match on the 19th of June this year

‘Anderson Silva! You absolutely suck!’. These were the words of Chael Sonnen that set off a fierce rivalry with one of the greatest mixed martial artists ever.

The pair fought twice, with Silva winning both the fights. There was a lot of trash talking from Sonnen’s side (not a big surprise), in the build up to both the fights.

And now in an interview for the ages, Silva appeared as a guest on Sonnen’s YouTube channel much to the delight MMA ‘Hardcores’, as the Spider discussed his upcoming boxing fight against Julio Cesar Chavez.

Silva was recently released by the UFC, after his loss to Uriah Hall in October 2020. The 46-year old Brazilian has however not retired from the sport of MMA.

Having already boxed twice in his extremely long combat sports career, Silva will be taking on Chavez in June, later this year.

Silva claimed that soon after his UFC release he had offers flooding in from various promoters, of which the Chavez offer was the first. He claimed that he right now has his entire focus on the upcoming boxing bout.

Silva was quoted as saying:

“This is the first, but different promoters called me and call ICM. Right now my focus is [on] this fight. But a lot of people called me and the ICM that represent me, that I’m signed right now. But right now my focus is [on] one fight, this fight on July 19th [June 19th] and let’s see.”

Anderson Silva’s last boxing fight was way back in 2005

Silva has fought in over 45 bouts in his professional MMA career. He tried his hand at boxing even before the 2000s.

He made his boxing debut against Brazilian, Osmar Luiz Teixeira in May 1998, and lost the fight in the very first round (RTD).

7 years later he got his first professional boxing win, against another Brazilian, Julio Cesar de Jesus.

And now, 16 years from then, the Spider is all set for his third boxing bout.
