Leon Edwards had suggested that Tyron Woodley wasn’t calling him out for a fight

Former UFC Welterweight Champion Tyron Woodley lashed out at rival Leon Edwards on social media.

The two were to face off against each other at UFC 171 which was to be held in London. However, the March event was postponed indefinitely due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The event was shifted to the United States prior to the suspension, however, Edwards was unable to leave the UK and make it to the US.

While the UFC has planned to restart shows from 9 May, Edwards spoke about a possible fight against Woodley. However, the Brit suggested that it was Woodley avoiding the clash.

The former UFC champion didn’t take these comments lightly and hit out on Twitter.

Woodley claimed that he wanted to fight tougher opponents and those who are ranked higher. He also said that Edwards was a stepping stone and he could not come to the United States.

Big fights for UFC 249

The pair could have fought at UFC 249 on 9 May too but with Edwards stuck in the UK, it was impossible for that to take place.

Niko Price vs Vicente Luque is the Welterweight fight for the night, but there are a couple of big clashes that everyone is interested in.

Justin Gaethje vs Tony Ferguson for the interim UFC Lightweight Championship is the main event. Henry Cejudo, the Bantamweight Champion, defends his title against Dominick Cruz too.

The third big fight is Francis Ngannou facing Jairzinho Rozenstruik. Donald Cerrone also goes up against Anthony Pettis on the preliminary card.

Woodley could still be seen on future UFC cards in the US but there is no such chance for Edwards.

The American is one of the top fighters in the Welterweight division, and it will be interesting to see who he challenges next.
