Khabib Nurmagomedov vs GSP will go down in history as one of the greatest matchups that never came to fruition

Khabib officially retired two months ago. He had hung up his gloves after beating Justin Gaethje at UFC 254 in October 2020.

Before his official retirement announcement in March 2021, a lot of speculations arose that Khabib would come out of retirement if he ever fought the great Georges St-Pierre.

GSP too seemed intrigued by that offer. However, it never materialized, and Khabib’s official confirmation of his retirement, put everything to bed.

The latest development is that, GSP has recently contacted UFC President Dana White, and expressed his desire to fight Khabib. White has in turn told this to Ali Abdelaziz, which the Dominance MMA CEO revealed in Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson alongside Henry Cejudo.

“Ten days ago, Dana White called me. And he said, ‘Georges St-Pierre, he said he will fight Khabib. Non-title fight, 165 pounds.’ But in a way, we’ve been waiting for Georges… I like Georges. He’s my friend.”

St-Pierre is 40 years old now. His last fight was against Michael Bisping at UFC 217 in November 2017. He successfully won the middleweight championship in his very first attempt against the ‘Count’. But, he later vacated the title since he was suffering from ulcerative colitis.

Abdelaziz doesn’t want to see Georges St-Pierre fight Khabib Nurmagomedov

Despite little to no chance of Khabib fighting GSP, Abdelaziz mentioned that it wouldn’t be a fair fight if they fought now.

Khabib being at the peak of his powers, and a much efficient wrestler than the Canadian, were the reasons given by Abdelaziz for the same.

He told Tyson and Cejudo:

“To be honest, as a human, I don’t want to see Georges St-Pierre in this… He’s 40 years old today. It’s his birthday [May 19]. Khabib…the man wrestled bears, alligators, and lions. They both have the same game, but Khabib is much younger, more ferocious, you know?. I don’t think it will be even a fair fight.”
