Aleksei Oleinik might not have won the fight but provided one talking point

UFC veteran Aleksei Oleinik didn’t have a lot to celebrate after his fight against Derrick Lewis.

The 43-year-old was defeated after a flurry of punches at the start of the second round. However, Oleinik had Lewis tied in the first round as the Russian tried to get a submission.

The Black Beast somehow survived and ensured he picked up a record-breaking 11th knockout in UFC Heavyweight history.

While Lewis celebrated in his trademark fashion after the clash, there was something peculiar about how Oleinik rested in between rounds.

The 43-year-old decided not to sit on a stool but instead lied down on his back. He put his feet on the cage and rested before getting up for the second round.

This isn’t the first time the Russian had used this technique. Oleinik did the same at UFC 249 against Fabricio Werdum and got the win back then.

No luck for Oleinik

Oleinik was out of luck in the second round and got a running knee in the chest. That allowed Lewis to unload on his rival and the Black Beast got another impressive win.

While Lewis is looking for bigger and better things in the Heavyweight division, this loss snapped a two-fight win streak for the Russian.

Oleinik now has an MMA record of 59 wins, 14 losses and one draw. The 43-year-old has won several awards during his long and illustrious MMA career. However, he is yet to win gold in the UFC.

Oleinik does have one record that he can be proud of. He is the only UFC star to have won a fight with an Ezekial Choke, and the Russian has done this twice.
