The fate of the Premier League title looks almost decided now. Manchester City are currently 11 points clear at the top of the table, despite losing the recent match against Manchester United. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side ended the Citizens’ winning run at the Etihad Stadium, with goals from Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw handing them a 2-0 victory.

However, City are still firm favourites for the league title, with the other teams looking nowhere near challenging their current supremacy. Backing Pep Guardiola’s side for the domestic crown this season seems like a sensible decision for punters who have availed  for their sports betting.

1- Manchester United 4-3 Manchester City (2009)

This was one of the greatest Manchester derbies ever. Manchester City had spent heavily in the summer to bring players like Carlos Tevez, Emmanuel Adebayor, and Joleon Lescott in the team. And when the two Manchester sides met each other in September 2009, both teams competed fiercely with each other and gave the fans a spectacular display at Old Trafford.

Wayne Rooney struck the first blow for Manchester United inside two minutes of the game before City responded with Gareth Barry’s goal. Darren Fletcher got his team ahead four minutes after the interval but Craig Bellamy managed to equalize soon. The Scottish footballer got on the scoresheet again, only for Bellamy to pop up with the leveller again.

This thrilling match looked to be heading for a draw. However, Michael Owen had different intentions as he struck deep into stoppage time to send Old Trafford fans into raptures.

2- Manchester United 1 Manchester City 6 (2011)

Manchester United were a formidable force in England when Sir Alex Ferguson was at the helm of affairs at Old Trafford. And the Red Devils mostly dominated in the derby matches too. However, the Cityzens’ fortunes dramatically changed when City Football Group took over the club and they were no longer the weaker Manchester side.

Over the years, the Cityzens brought some of the best footballers to the Etihad Stadium. They splashed £44 million for securing the signature of Raheem Sterling who was previously a Liverpool player. The Sky Blues also forked out a whopping £55m to bring Kevin De Bruyne from VFL Wolfsburg. Apart from that, they also parted with hefty sums for the signatures of Benjamin Mendy, AymericLaporte, RiyadMahrez, and Rodri, etc. Now the club have heavily been linked with Lionel Messi, one of the best footballers of all time.

In the 2011 Manchester derby, City hadn’t signed any of these famous footballers but they still completely destroyed their opponents. The first half of the game only saw one goal, with Mario Balotelli scoring the opener for City. However, the real catastrophe for United came in the second half when their rivals pounded them with plenty of goals.

Balotelli got on the scoresheet again early in the second half before Sergio Aguero, one of the best strikers in Premier League history, added a third. Substitute Edin Dzeko netted twice while David Silva also struck a late goal to complete the humiliation for United.
