Two ideal destinations for Liverpool outcast Simon Mignolet to move to

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is expected to hold talks regarding his future at Anfield. The Belgian has decided to raise this issue once the World Cup campaign is over for his country. The 30-year-old fell down the pecking order after the initial part of the previous term. In fact, he played his last Premier League game on New Year’s Eve.

Since then, Mignolet has been subjected to massive criticism. He is a fantastic shot-stopper but his performances were immensely underwhelming last season. In addition to that, the Belgian often got physically man-handled in set-piece situations.

But, if we take a look at his career, the 30-year-old had a good time with Sunderland before moving to Merseyside.  Given the circumstances, he just needs to move elsewhere to revitalize his career. Celtic and Newcastle United are the two clubs interested in acquiring the services of this goalkeeper. But given a choice between the two, where should Mignolet go?

Martin Dubravka has performed admirably since arriving on loan from Sparta Prague and the Slovakian recently signed a permanent deal with the club. However, the Magpies need another goalkeeper of good quality. Mignolet’s presence would certainly help them in that regard. In fact, the Belgian might even establish himself as the first-choice goalkeeper.

After a lacklustre season, Mignolet has a lot to prove and he must do well. At Newcastle, Rafa Benitez will provide him with all the tools he needs to succeed. Furthermore, the Magpies have a rich history and with a player like Mignolet, they could create some historic moments in the near future.

If he moves to Celtic, Mignolet might end up doing what he did at Sunderland. The 30-year-old arrived at the Stadium of Light in 2010 and permanently replaced Craig Gordon. He might do a similar job in the Scottish Premiership since Gordon is currently the chief custodian between the sticks for the Hoops.

Nevertheless, the Belgian should benefit by playing in a different league and performing under former manager Rodgers. He would bring in some much-needed experience but it remains to be seen if Celtic make a move for him.
