Two ideal Championship destinations for Scott McTominay

According to the Sun, Manchester United and Jose Mourinho are considering loaning out Scott McTominay in January. The 21-year-old has struggled to make an impact this season but to be fair, he has been played out of position on numerous occasions so far.

Few Championship clubs, including Leeds United and Aston Villa, wanted the player in the summer but United rejected all those offers. However, manager Mourinho is now open to the Scot leaving the club for six months to gain experience. (Sun)

The youngster was played out of position at centre-back against West Ham and Newcastle and he evidently struggled. Hence, it would make sense for the Red Devils to let him go for a short period of time. It will help him to play games in his favoured midfield slot and harness experience for the next season.

Here are the two ideal Championship destinations for the 21-year-old:

Leeds United

The Peacocks are playing well under the legendary Marcelo Bielsa. They are fighting for promotion spots this season and getting a new midfielder in the winter window wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Bielsa plays his football in a high-intensity manner, meaning players would get tired once it gets to the crunch part of the season. For that reason, welcoming McTominay into the line-up would be great. The United man can play either as a defensive midfielder or as one of the central midfielders upon requirement. He obviously has the quality to further improve the Leeds’ midfield.

Therefore, the Peacocks should renew their interest in the player.

Aston Villa

Villa have changed their manager after an underwhelming start to the season. Dean Smith must try to add new faces in the January transfer window and signing McTominay on loan would be a step in the right direction.

John McGinn has been playing well for the Birmingham club in central midfield but the youngster needs an able partner in the middle third of the pitch. McTominay can accompany the 23-year-old and they could form a combative partnership in the midfield.

The Manchester United man is certain to improve the quality of play at Villa Park if he arrives for the second part of this season.
