Tottenham Opinion: Why Julian Draxler would be a smart fit for Spurs?

The Germany international’s career has stalled since his move to Paris Saint-Germain. Draxler, who was rated as a world-class talent a few years ago, hasn’t been a regular starter at the club this season due to heavy competition.

The report claims PSG ‘need to sell’ and the 25-year-old will be one of the first names this summer. The French champions value the playmaker around €30m-€40m, with Bayern Munich and Inter Milan also believed to be interested.

That being said, Tottenham must do everything possible to beat the likes of Inter Milan and Bayern Munich and sign Julian Draxler.

Mauricio Pochettino is trying to win the Premier League for the last couple of seasons but his team are falling short every time. He has a fantastic team, a mix of youth and experience, but lack of squad depth has hurt the team in crucial situations over the last few years. So, the Tottenham boss should make the most of this summer transfer window in improving the squad depth.

Also, Spurs must find a replacement for Christian Eriksen, who is out of contract at the club next summer. The Dane is strongly tipped to move on this summer after six years in north London. He is stalling on signing a new contract and as Eriksen’s current deal will expire next summer, Pochettino would be wise to cash in on the 27-year-old this summer.

Eriksen has been one of Pochettino’s most important players and losing him would be a mighty blow. Nevertheless, Pochettino has to make some bold decisions and one of them will be to sell Eriksen and replace him with Draxler.

Draxler has so far failed to fully recognise the potential he showed during his time in the Bundesliga. Yet, he is 25 and still has time to revive his career by leaving PSG this summer. He needs to regain his mojo and that can only be possible under a manager who trusts him. Thus, a move to Spurs might be beneficial for the German’s career at this stage.

Pochettino has excellent man-management skills and has shown his ability to get the best out of a lot of players so far at Tottenham. Draxler would largely benefit working under Pochettino, whilst adding quality and depth to the Spurs squad. The Germany international can play in different attacking positions, thereby adding more energy and creativity to the already exciting attack.

Verdict

Expected to be available on a bargain, if Pochettino can get the best out of Draxler then it would go down as one of the best signings in the club’s history.
