Tottenham Hotspur Opinion: Nicolò Zaniolo will be a strong addition to Spurs
According to a recent report by Calcio Mercato, Champions League runner-up Tottenham Hotspur are said to be lining up a move for Roma’s Italian midfield sensation Nicolò Zaniolo with a view of bringing him to north London in the summer.
The 19-year-old has been a revelation since bursting onto the scene earlier in the season and it has been suggested that Italian champions Juventus are also keen on his signature.
The report is claiming that Spurs are readying a bid in the region of €45m in order to try and tempt Roma into selling. This isn’t going to be easy though as Juventus’ involvement in this situation makes it difficult for Spurs to get the upper hand.
Although it could be said that Roma would prefer not to sell to their Serie A rivals, it does come down to the player at the end of the day and there’s every chance that the youngster will choose to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo in Turin.
Standing at almost 1.9m tall, Zaniolo can be a quite the physical presence in the centre of the park. He uses his physicality well to guard the ball and has the composure to patiently bring his teammates into the game.
His short passing is excellent while he also possesses the ability to pick out pin-point diagonals and long-balls. Supremely tricky as well, Zaniolo uses his body to his advantage on every possible occasion.
He is an amazing dribbler of the ball and has the beating of any defender in the world on his day. He seems to simply glide off the surface and although he isn’t blindingly fast, he moves the ball extremely well, making it very hard to retrieve.
He uses sharp feints and turns to dumbfound his opponents and also has the presence of mind to find the goal from massive distances as well.
Spurs’ Christmas period meltdown should be taken as a warning sign by Mauricio Pochettino. The fact that they made no addition to the side last season didn’t help their cause as injuries began to hit left, right and centre.
Having struggled to get past it, they still managed to secure Champions League football next season and the addition of Zaniolo would go a long way in ensuring that they get a top-four finish again next season.
