Why Tottenham should make a move for Dean Henderson in the summer

According to Daily Mail, Tottenham are one of the clubs interested in signing Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson, who is currently on a season-long loan with Sheffield United.

Dean Henderson, 22, has impressed for the Blades in the Premier League after playing a crucial role in their promotion from the Championship last term. He has kept nine clean sheets for Sheffield United this season – the same as Liverpool stopper Alisson.

The Blades have the second-best defensive record in the Premier League, behind only Jurgen Klopp’s side. After Henderson’s breakthrough season, he should focus on developing his career further.

The report adds that Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are also keen on signing the 22-year-old, who is pushing for a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad for this summer’s Euro 2020 campaign.

Tottenham, meanwhile, have struggled defensively this season, conceding 34 goals in 26 games. Hugo Lloris’ form for Spurs has been worrying in recent years, with the French World Cup winner making high-profile blunders last season. Although he has returned stronger from an elbow injury in January and helped his team climb to 5th place in the table, the Frenchman is 33 and isn’t getting any younger.

Paulo Gazzaniga deputized in goal during Lloris’ injury absence but the Argentinean has conceded sloppy goals. Also, third-choice goalkeeper Michel Vorm’s short-term deal expires at the end of the season.

Having said that, Tottenham boss Mourinho should address the goalkeeping department in the summer by signing Dean Henderson.

As per WhoScored, Henderson has averaged 26.2 passes, 7.1 long balls and a 34.3% pass accuracy, whilst conceding 21 goals and keeping eight clean sheets in just 24 league games. Verdict

Upon comparing their stats, Henderson has better numbers almost in every area than Gazzaniga. Going purely by numbers, Tottenham should certainly look at bringing the Englishman to the club in the summer. At the age of 22, Henderson has a long way to go in his career and there are chances of him establishing himself at a higher level under the guidance of Mourinho.
