Tottenham Opinion: Why Suso would be an excellent fit at Tottenham?

According to a report from Italian outlet Calciomercato, Tottenham, West Ham and Arsenal are all interested in AC Milan star Suso.

The Spaniard, 25, enjoyed a good campaign with AC Milan last season, racking up eight goals and nine assists in 41 appearances in all competitions. He has been one of the consistent performers for the Serie A club for the last couple of seasons.

However, the report claims that Suso would struggle to get into new Milan manager Marco Giampaolo’s formation and thus, the Rossoneri are willing to sacrifice the 25-year-old this summer. Keeping that in mind, Tottenham must attempt to beat their London rivals to the signing of Suso.

Difficulty to sign players combined with the club’s tight budget during the new stadium development have made Spurs inactive in the transfer market.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino will be eager to sign players in this summer transfer window after failing to mount a significant title challenge last season. He was left heartbroken when Liverpool beat Tottenham in the Champions League final earlier this month.

Star playmaker Christian Eriksen has been a crucial cog in Pochettino’s system for the last few seasons now. But his contract runs out next summer and the Dane has turned down a new deal as of now. And his recent comments of taking a ‘new challenge’ did not take the club by surprise, and may give Daniel Levy and co. the push to offload Eriksen this summer to avoid the risk of losing him for free.

Replacing Eriksen would be a difficult task for Pochettino, given the Denmark international is considered as one of the world’s best playmakers. But it won’t be impossible, though, as the Spurs manager could do well by signing Suso from AC Milan.

Suso has done well in Italy since moving there from Liverpool back in 2015. Blessed with solid technique, pace, close control and dribbling skills, the 25-year-old generally operates on the right wing but he is also capable of playing through the middle as a no.10.

From the right, the Spaniard has a knack of cutting in on his left and firing powerful shots on goal or delivering teasing crosses in the box for his teammates to feast upon.

The ex-Liverpool man’s direct style of play suggests that he would thrive in Pochettino’s system and will add creativity and goals to Tottenham.

Suso is also a threat from dead-ball situations and is generally the sort of player who can produce brilliant moments on the pitch. All in all, he has come a long way from the Liverpool nightmare and is now ready to return to the Premier League.

Verdict

As per the Daily Mirror, Suso has a £35 million release clause inserted into his current contract with Milan, and in today’s day and age that would actually represent fantastic value for money for Spurs.
