Tottenham Opinion: Why Hirving Lozano would be a top addition for Spurs

According to a report from Italian news outlet CalcioNapoli24, Tottenham have joined the race for PSV Eindhoven star, Hirving Lozano.

The Mexico international, 23, lit up last summer’s World Cup in Russia and floated around as a target for a number for teams on the continent. But no team came up with a concrete offer and Hirving Lozano wound up staying with PSV Eindhoven, where he netted 21 times across all competitions last term.

The report claims that Napoli are frontrunners to sign the 23-year-old attacker, but Tottenham are wary that Real Madrid are keen on one of their prized assets, Son Heung-min. Napoli are willing to offer £35.4 million for Lozano, but PSV want £44.6 million.

Keeping that in mind, Spurs should attempt to beat Napoli and quickly thrash out a deal for the Mexican forward.

Tottenham are yet to break their duck in the ongoing summer transfer window, but Mauricio Pochettino’s side’s progress in recent years does seem to have made them a very attractive club to join. Pochettino has worked wonders on a shoestring budget at Spurs since taking over in the summer of 2014, and he has transformed the North London club into genuine challengers for major honours, both domestically and in Europe.

The Argentinean manager has not made a signing in the last two transfer windows but must the break that drought this summer. While strengthening the options in midfield has to be a priority for Spurs, an attacker should be on Pochettino’s to-do list, especially if Christian Eriksen is sold this summer.

Eriksen has confirmed he wants to take on a new challenge at another club this summer, amidst interest from Real Madrid. The Dane has only a year left on his current contract and as he is reluctant to commit his future at Tottenham, Pochettino could cash in on the playmaker rather losing him on a free transfer next year.

The Denmark international’s sale would potentially boost Pochettino’s transfer kitty and with that money, the Spurs manager should sign Lozano from PSV Eindhoven.

Hirving Lozano

Lozano scored 21 goals and provided 12 assists in 40 games for PSV last season. In the 2017/18 season, he managed 19 goals and 11 assists in just 34 outings. In short, the 23-year-old knows where the goal is and his potential could see him bring competition for Harry Kane. The Mexican is dynamic, creative and is absolutely rapid on the counter-attack.

The 23-year-old is incredibly deadly in front of goal as evident with his brilliant goalscoring record for PSV since joining in 2017. Lozano is a proven goal scorer and his ability to create something out of nothing makes him a real asset.

Verdict

All in all, Tottenham would make a statement ahead of the new season by beating Napoli to the signing of Lozano.
