Why Tottenham Hotspur should buy Ryan Fraser

According to Football Insider (h/t Daily Star), Bournemouth star Ryan Fraser is keen on joining rivals Tottenham Hotspur if they approach him.

The 26-year-old winger’s current contract with Bournemouth is set to expire this June, meaning he will be available for free when the transfer window opens in the summer. Fraser had garnered a lot of attention last season after racking up 8 goals and 15 assists from 42 appearances across all competitions for the Cherries.

His standout displays for Bournemouth that season saw the likes of Arsenal showing an interest in the Scotsman. However, Fraser stayed put after Arsenal roped in French winger Nicolas Pepe for a record £72million from Lille.

Unlike last season, Fraser has not been in the best of forms this year, which has seen the Cherries slip to the relegation zone. Despite not being at his peak, Fraser still remains Bournemouth’s top-assist provider in the league this season with four to his name.

This is a clear indication of the talent that he is, thus making Arsenal’s interest in him look sensible. However, sources close to the player revealed that he is keen on joining Tottenham despite Arsenal still tracking the winger, who will be available on a free transfer this time.

Fraser can save Tottenham from spending big

Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham have endured a difficult spell in the league this season, and are currently 8th in the table. With their performances taking a sudden dip this term, the Portuguese boss needs to bring in new faces to climb the ladder next season.

Tottenham, who scored 47 goals from 29 games league games, have largely relied on their star striker Harry Kane (11), and wide-forward Heung-min Son this year.

Apart from these two, the rest of the side’s attackers have failed to put up a decent display, raising concerns regarding the team’s strengths. Tottenham have also lacked creativity in the attack, with Son remaining the side’s highest assist-provider in the league with 8 to his name.

Tottenham also have Lucas Moura, Erik Lamela and winter signing Steve Bergwijn to play across the flanks. However, Moura and Lamela have been mostly inconsistent this season, with the pair managing just 5 league assists between them.

Bergwijn, meanwhile, has impressed since his arrival but still lacks enough Premier League exposure. That said, Tottenham should pursue their interest in Fraser, who is a veteran of 128 Premier League matches and has played 208 matches for the Cherries.

Most importantly, Tottenham need not waste any money, especially during this time of financial crunch due to the coronavirus crisis if they can land free man Fraser.

Verdict

In Fraser, Tottenham have a Premier League star who still has many years of football left in him. Also, being a top-performer for the Cherries in the last couple of years, there is no questioning Fraser’s talent. Thus, signing him will only make Tottenham stronger and offer Mourinho plenty of options in the attack.
