Tottenham Opinion: Why Elif Elmas would be a brilliant buy for Spurs?

According to a report from Turkish Football, Tottenham have made an enquiry for Fenerbahce starlet, Elif Elmas.

Spurs have scouted the 19-year-old on three separate occasions and have begun discussing a potential move with Fenerbahce. The Turkish outfit has absolutely no desire to sell the player as he is currently contracted to the club until 2022, though, the report claims they value Elif Elmas around €20m.

Tottenham are one of the host of European clubs interested in Elmas, who was one of the rare bright sparks for Fenerbahce in an otherwise miserable 2018/19 campaign in the Turkish SuperLig. The Macedonian international scored four times in 40 appearances in all competitions for The Yellow-Navy Blues in all competitions this past term.

Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs did not make a signing for the past two transfer windows as they saved funds for their new stadium. Despite no new additions, his team reached the Champions League final and finished inside the Premier League top four. But with the stadium now complete and in use, the North London outfit must spend big to challenge for major trophies next season.

The midfield is one of the most important areas that needs strengthening over the summer. None of Eric Dier, Victor Wanyama or Harry Winks could consistently produce the goods from midfield, leaving Moussa Sissoko to shoulder the majority of the burden. Pochettino is also yet to replace Mousa Dembele, who was sold to China during the January transfer window.

Keeping in mind Tottenham’s midfield conundrum and the need to replace Dembele ahead of the new season, signing Elif Elmas would be a step in the right direction. Elmas is rated highly across Europe and deserves to be in the spotlight for consistently performing in an underwhelming campaign for Fenerbahce.
