Tottenham Hotspur Opinion: Eriksen sale can fund Nicolo Zaniolo move 

According to a recent report by Calcio Mercato, Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has set his eyes on Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen as one of the primary summer targets.

He expects the Los Blancos staff to get the deal through the door before the end of the transfer window as he intends to initiate a massive squad overhaul this summer. It has been suggested that Manchester United star Paul Pogba is also one of the targets. 

Losing a player of the pedigree of Christian Eriksen in the summer after they finished runners-up in the Champions League could be a hurting blow indeed.

The need to replace him is unbelievably high, considering that Zidane is able to talk the player into making the switch across the English Channel. It has been suggested that the French manager is a big fan of the Danish international’s style of play. 

Another player being linked with a possible move to the Santiago Bernebau this summer is Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo. The Italian is a 19-year-old midfield sensation who has come to the fore in the Serie A this season.

He has displayed him umpteen supreme talents time and again on the pitch and the fact that he still has massive room for growth, makes him the ideal transfer target for many. 

Surprisingly, Mauricio Pochettino Tottenham side have also been linked with a move for the Italian. It could be said that the Spurs chiefs have begun their search for a replacement for Christian Eriksen, especially considering that the club in question are Real Madrid.

Pochettino will be preparing for life without the Dane but it won’t be quite as easy as it sounds. Irrespective, signing Zaniolo would go a long way towards that cause. 

Strong and well built, the Italian can be a real force in the middle of the park with his physical superiority over most players. He uses his body well to guard the ball and also has the vision and composure to find teammates around him.

He is an adept dribbler who seems to simply glide off the surface at times. Deceptively quick, the teenager adds goals as well as assists to the scene as well.

This season, he played 27 Serie A games for Roma and managed to notch up 4 goals and 2 assists. While these numbers aren’t race-worthy, considering that he is essentially a playmaker in the middle of the park, his contributions to the side were vital.

A powerful yet youthful player like Zaniolo could be the ideal target for Spurs, especially considering that replacing Christian Eriksen, isn’t a task that many are cut out for.
