Tottenham Opinion: Why Dani Ceballos would be a solid signing for Spurs?
According to a report from Spanish news outlet El Desmarque, Tottenham are keen on Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos.
Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is planning a huge shake up after a poor season in the La Liga. The French tactician wants to offload a number of players, including Dani Ceballos.
Ceballos, 22, played 23 times in the La Liga this past campaign, scoring three goals. However, he appears to have no future at Santiago Bernabeu following the return of Zidane at the club. Apart from Tottenham, the Spaniard has also suitors in Arsenal, Sevilla and his former club, Real Betis, the report adds.
But Tottenham are most interested in the 22-year-old and are willing to spend big to sign him this summer.
Spurs are expected to invest this summer after not signing any players in the last two transfer windows. Yet, Mauricio Pochettino has guided the club to the Champions League final. It’s an incredible achievement for the north Londoners to even reach the Champions League final without spending a single penny last summer.
Nevertheless, that shouldn’t happen again if the club’s ambitions are to win the Premier League and other trophies next season. Their ageing defensive line and lack of depth in both midfield and attack shows how badly Pochettino needs new faces. At the moment, the Argentinean manager has an exciting squad but he needs to make a few changes to push for the title next campaign.
The midfield is the area Pochettino must focus first in the transfer market following recurrent injury problems to Harry Winks and Victor Wanyama. What surprised many about Spurs was their idea to let go Mousa Dembele in January itself without even signing a proper replacement.
Such mistakes should be avoided going forward and Pochettino would be wise to bolster his options in midfield with the addition of Dani Ceballos.
Ceballos for some reason has struggled to settle down at Real Madrid following his switch from Real Betis in 2017. With Spurs interested in him, there’s no better chance for him to revive his career by joining Pochettino’s exciting side.

The six-cap Spain international is technically-gifted player, who can play as an eight or as a 10. He possesses a wonderful range of passing and can set the tempo of Spurs’ play. Ceballos’ ability on the ball, combined with his impressive engine, agility and vision means that he could fill Dembele’s void at Tottenham with aplomb.
Verdict
If Tottenham could manage to complete the transfer of the 22-year-old Spaniard then it would represent a massive coup for Pochettino’s side.
