Why Tottenham should sanction a permanent departure for Luke Amos
According to Twitter claims from reliable journalist Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic, Queens Park Rangers are interested in signing Tottenham midfielder Luke Amos in a permanent deal this summer.
The 23-year-old, who is also attracting interest from fellow second-tier outfit Middlesbrough, spent the previous campaign on loan at Loftus Road. Amos established himself as a key cog in the middle of the park for QPR, scoring twice in 34 appearances, as Mark Warburton’s side finished 13th in the Championship standings last term.

Amos rose through the youth ranks at Tottenham and spent time on loan at Southend United in League One and Stevenage in League Two before making his Premier League debut for the Lilywhites in their first game of the 2018–19 season against Newcastle United.
That remains his only first-team appearance for Spurs till date, with Amos spending a lot of time on the treatment table after rupturing his cruciate ligament in a Premier League 2 game.
The 23-year-old joined QPR on a season-long loan deal last summer and enjoyed an impressive debut season in the Championship. He started 26 games and clocked up over 2000 minutes of first-team football.
Why he doesn’t have a future at Tottenham
Jose Mourinho already has plenty of options when it comes to his midfield cavalry, with Eric Dier, Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko, Victor Wanyama, Tanguy Ndombele, Giovanni Lo Celso, Gedson Fernandes and Oliver Skipp all competing for places in the starting eleven.
Plus, the North Londoners are on the verge of announcing the signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Southampton. Hence, it’s hard to see how Luke Amos, who remains completely unproven at the Premier League level, would possibly fit into the manager’s plans next season.
Amos was once regarded as a bright young talent at Tottenham but he has already been usurped by fellow academy graduates Winks and Skipp, meaning that the 23-year-old needs to build a career elsewhere.
Verdict
Tottenham need to make a decision on the player’s future sooner than later given that he doesn’t seem to be a part of their plans moving forward. Amos’ stocks are currently on the rise after an impressive loan spell in the Championship. So the time might just be right for the Lilywhites to cash in on their academy prospect.
