Three players Wolverhampton Wanderers could sign in January
Nuno Espirito Santo took charge of Wolverhampton Wanderers last summer and guided the club to Premier League promotion. The manager has brought in quite a few reinforcements in the summer transfer window to bolster the squad. Signing Rui Patricio, Raul Jimenez and the move to make Diogo Jota’s loan deal permanent have all paid the dividends.
Wolves have started their Premier League campaign with a sense of promise. Santo’s side showed a lot of character in the 2-2 draw against Everton on opening day, following it up with another brilliant performance against the reigning champions Manchester City.
While Wolves look good enough to stay alive in the Premier League with their current squad of players, Santo should consider signing more players in January to add depth for the team to excel at all fronts.
Here are three players Wolves could sign in January.
1. Davide Zappacosta
The Italian right-back, who moved to Chelsea for a fee of £27million from Torino last summer, made 22 appearances for the Blues in the previous Premier League campaign, mostly as a substitute. However, the arrival of new manager Maurizio Sarri has seen the right-back slip down the pecking order and the Italian is yet to make an appearance for Chelsea this season.
Zappacosta could bring in a lot of versatility to the team with his ability to play as a right-back and a right-sided midfielder. He may not be the strongest man on the pitch but boasts of fine technique and can get past defenders with nimble elegance. He is not only composed at the back and times his tackles to perfection but can also add a lot to the team in terms of attack with his crossing and shooting abilities.
2. Bojan Krkic
The Spanish midfielder began his career in Barcelona and moved to the Premier League in 2014. However, he has been unable to cement a permanent place at Stoke City, making only 65 appearances for the club across all competitions.
The former Barcelona man is good with his technique and looks comfortable on the ball. He can make incisive runs down the flanks and has the ability to weave past defenders with his pace, flair, and athleticism. The Spaniard is good with his movement off the ball and often tends to drift to the central areas of the park to link up play with his vision.
Bojan has played for a number of clubs across Europe and his experience should be resourceful for a team like Wolves.
3. Willian Jose
The Brazilian currently plays for Real Sociedad in the La Liga. He is another typical South American footballer who has the ability to do special things with the ball.
Although Jose has a good eye for the goal and primarily plays as a centre-forward, he can drop deeper and play as a supporting striker. Like most Brazilians, he boasts of fine technique and excels at playing killer through balls to his teammates.
Not only is he a clinical finisher with both feet but he can also be a threat with his headers from close range. The Brazilian often plays delightful lob passes from deeper areas of the park and can perform intelligent lay-offs just outside the box. Jose is also handy with his curling long-range shots.
