Three players Manchester City could sign in the January window

Manchester City have made yet another strong start to the new season.

Pep Guardiola’s men absolutely dominated Arsenal on opening day and followed it up with another thrashing win over Huddersfield Town.

City did not play too badly against Wolverhampton Wanderers either, creating loads of chances but could not finish them. Sergio Aguero had a relatively poor day at the office and so did Vincent Kompany, who did not look fit enough on the day.

Guardiola has added Riyad Mahrez to his already-packed squad but he could definitely add to that with more signings, considering some of City’s stars are on the other side of 30. They have a strong squad with enough depth to do well on all fronts but new reinforcements could help them in their European adventure.

Here are three players that Manchester City could sign in January.

1. Isco

Isco
Isco

The Spanish midfielder turned his career around under the stewardship of Zinedine Zidane at Real Madrid, making regular starts at Santiago Bernabeu.

He was instrumental in Real Madrid’s success last season and excelled with nine goals and ten assists. A central attacking midfielder by trade, the Spaniard has shown the versatility to adapt his game to any position in the attacking third.

A player defined by technical superiority, Isco is comfortable with the ball at his feet, making it hard to dispossess him. The Spanish international has the vision to find his teammates and link play with his teammates in the attacking third. Whenever deployed on the flanks, he tends to weave his way past the defenders with elegance and shifts to the central areas of the park.

With Cristiano Ronaldo gone, Madrid should make every effort to hold on to their star but Manchester City have the financial resources to secure his signature.

2. Lucas Hernandez

Lucas Hernandez

The 22-year-old Frenchman started his career with Atletico Madrid in 2014 but he came to the limelight after winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup with France.

A player blessed with incredible skills while intercepting, blocking and tackling, Hernandez has good awareness as a defender around the edge of the box. He is also great in the air, an attribute that should make him a perfect bargain for any Premier League club.

Hernandez was a regular starter for France at the World Cup and he could push his international teammate Benjamin Mendy for the left-back position. Although Mendy has the ability to offer more offensively, Hernandez is more solid at the back and could be termed a no-nonsense defender.

3. Thomas Lemar

Thomas Lemar

The 22-year-old rose to prominence with some impressive performances for French club AS Monaco and was a part of France’s squad that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Hailed as one of the most exciting young talents around, Lemar is another dynamic and versatile midfielder who is capable of playing in multiple positions in the attacking third.

Originally a free-flowing player, Lemar has amazing ball control and can pick out his teammates with incredible vision when deployed as a playmaker.

Playing on the wings, he has the ability to cut inside and tends to wreak havoc with his accurate crosses.

The youngster joined Atletico Madrid this summer and the Spanish club should be reluctant to sell him. However, few can prevent Manchester City from bringing the Frenchman to the Etihad with the kind of money they have.
