Three players Crystal Palace must consider signing in January

Crystal Palace have made a poor start to their Premier League campaign with three back-to-back defeats. A 2-0 loss to Fulham on opening day was followed by another 2-0 loss to Liverpool, before Roy Hodgson’s side succumbed 2-1 to Watford.

To be fair, Palace have all the makings of a good mid-table side and Roy Hodgson must aim to turn their fortunes around and avoid the potential threat of relegation.

Palace signed Max Meyer from Schalke this summer and the German has fared well in the limited opportunities he has received so far. However, it must be noted that the Eagles have struggled to score goals this season, scoring only once in the three games.

Their talisman Wilfred Zaha has not made the best start while Christian Benteke has looked disappointing. Hence, the current scenario should prompt Hodgson to bring in a striker and a midfielder to add solidity to the team and spice up the attacking options.

Here are three players Palace can sign once the January window commences.

1. Steven N’Zonzi

N’Zonzi would add a strong physical threat to Palace’s midfield which lacks aerial strength. To that end, N’Zonzi would be a great new signing.

He also has European experience which could add greater quality while going forward as well as defensively. The midfielder usually occupies a defensive role and is noted for being calm and composed whilst in possession. Furthermore, his passing skills are quite impressive as well.

2. Diego Lopez

Diego Lopez

With European Cup and La Liga success under his belt, Diego Lopez could be a great new signing for the Eagles. The goalkeeper is a winner and he could be vital since Palace’s last line of defence is in dire need of confidence. Wayne Hennesey has not been as solid as he should be. And although Lopez is on the wrong side of 30, he should be a good addition to the squad.

3. Daniel Sturridge

The English international, who currently earns wages in the region of £120,000-a-week, is unlikely to receive adequate game time at Liverpool. After all, the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are already in the first-team mix.

Sturridge must work towards resurrecting his club and international career. And to that end, a move to Crystal Palace would serve well. He will definitely receive more playing minutes in comparison and the move would also benefit Palace greatly, given that Benteke’s showings have been far from impressive.
