Three ideal destinations for free agent Robert Huth

German centre-back Robert Huth, 34, has been a familiar name amongst the Premier League fans for more than fifteen years. Over the course of his career, Huth has played for four different clubs in the English top-flight and has won the title thrice, twice with Chelsea and once with Leicester City.

Robert Huth joined Leicester City on loan from Stoke City early in 2015 and later signed a three-year deal with the Foxes. He was part of the Leicester team that tasted Premier League glory in the 2015/16 season and went on to become only the seventh player to win the domestic title with two different clubs.

However, the German missed the entire 2017/18 season due to ankle and foot injuries and left the club after his contract expired this year. He is still a free agent and it should not be difficult for him to find a club with all the experience under his belt.

Here are three ideal destinations for Robert Huth.

1. West Ham United

Manuel Pellegrini’s side are currently struggling at the bottom of the Premier League table, following four back-to-back defeats. The Hammers are yet to pick up their first point of the season and much of that has been down to sloppy defending.

Although Pellegrini signed Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena this summer, his new defensive reinforcements have not yet proved their worth. Angelo Ogbonna has also not done any justice to his selection.

West Ham have looked disorganized at the back and lack someone who can dictate terms. Robert Huth should be the perfect addition to Pellegrini’s team and he could bring in some much-needed discipline as well.

2. Aston Villa

Just like West Ham, Aston Villa are also in a defensive crisis at the moment. Their only clean sheet this season came against a League Two side in the Carabao Cup.

Manager Steve Bruce needs to bolster his defensive options, particularly after the defeat to Sheffield Wednesday last weekend, where Villa were ripped apart, conceding four goals.

Aston Villa have managed only two wins from their six games in the Championship this season and have conceded 11 goals so far. They need to improve their results immediately to earn promotion to the Premier League next season.

And they can certainly do so by signing Robert Huth since the German is likely to help the team achieve a better defensive record.

3. Leeds United

Leeds United have enjoyed a superb start to the season and sit atop the Championship table after five undefeated matches. Yet, the Whites have not done as much as they can to address their limited defensive options. One way they could change that is by signing Robert Huth.

The former Chelsea and Stoke City defender has the experience this Leeds team lacks, and even at 34 years of age, he could be a big asset for the promotion-chasing side.
