Three best PL transfer deals this January

The January transfer window has officially come to an end after a flurry of activities throughout the month. Norwich City, Leicester City, Liverpool, and Manchester United sent most of their youngsters on loans to the lower leagues.

However, there were few important signings made by the top tier teams to bolster their squad depth. Let’s have a look at 3 of the best transfer deals that took place this month.

Bruno Fernandes

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United completed the signing of Bruno Fernandes for an initial amount of €55m.

The Red Devils lacked a creative player in the middle of the park and the Portuguese international seems ideal. Injuries to Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay had created numerous problems but Fernandes’ presence does come as a welcome boost.

Andreas Pereira and Jesse Lingard have struggled when deployed as attacking midfielders, contributing just 1 goal and 3 assists together. Juan Mata has also fallen down the pecking order.

Fernandes, who has been in scintillating form for Sporting CP, scored 32 goals while providing 18 assists last season. And he added a further 15 goals and 14 assists to his tally this term. He has also performed exceptionally well for his national team, winning the UEFA Nations League with Portugal.

Steven Bergwijn

As per BBC, Tottenham signed Dutch forward Steven Bergwijn for £27m from PSV Eindhoven. The 22-year-old scored 31 goals in 149 appearances for his former club. And this term, he already had five goals and 10 assists to his name in the Eredivisie.

The talented youngster is predominantly a left-winger but can also lead the line as a striker. And he has come at the right time since Harry Kane is of action for a few months. The fact that he scored on his debut certainly proves a point.

Sander Berge

According to Sky Sports, Sheffield United broke their club record by signing Norway international Sander Berge for £22m from Belgian side Genk.

Coming through the ranks of Asker FH in his homeland, the 21-year-old joined Genk in 2017 and performed consistently. He has already won 20 caps with his national side.

He also attracted interest from some top clubs like Napoli and Liverpool. Having captained Genk on a few occasions, he was outstanding in the Champion League group stage games.

The Blades would benefit from his defensive qualities in the middle of the park, thus making this a brilliant move.
