Tottenham Hotspur Opinion: Steven Bergwijn will be an amazing signing

According to a recent report by The Sun, Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur are being linked with a potential summer move for PSV Eindhoven’s Dutch star Steven Bergwijn.

It has been suggested that a multitude of Europe’s biggest clubs are quite keen on the youngster’s signature with Mauricio Pochettino’s men said to be in the said at this moment in time.

It has been suggested that Pochettino is a huge fan of the 21-year-old Dutch star. Bergwijn did extremely well in PSV’s Champions League tie against Tottenham in November. Manchester United are also said to be interested in signing the youngster who has impressed heavily over the course of the last two Eredivisie campaigns.

Ajax’s footballing direction Marc Overmars is also said to be an massive fan of the Dutch prodigy which means that a move back to his boyhood club is still a possibility. Although moving to Ajax would mean better opportunities for the youngster, it seems highly unlikely that they would be allowed to sign one of their bitter rivals’ best players.

As mentioned earlier, the youngster did spend a couple of years in the Ajax youth academy until 2011 when he made the switch to PSV. Since making the move, he has developed into one of Europe’s most exciting young talents and he’s certainly out in the performances to back up all the amazing plaudits he has received over the course of the campaign.

An excellent dribbler of the ball, his play down the flanks can be almost impossible to defend. His finishing in the final third is the stuff of dreams as he managed to find the back of the net from large distances on a consistent basis. Despite his slight frame, he boasts excellent strength as well as balance when in possession of the ball.

Originally a left winger, the Dutchman is versatile enough to be deployed across the forward-line and he’s even played at centre-forward at times. His numbers in the Eredivisie this season will certainly only motivate Spurs further about this sale. He has managed to notch up 14 goals and 12 assists from his 33 league games for PSV.

Spurs went through an extremely difficult Christmas period last season because of the number of unexpected injuries that hit them. When added to the fact that they made no summer signings, it effectively meant disaster. They were lucky to finish 4th at the end of it and making such an error next season could prove to be costly, which is why they must move for Bergwijn before the transfer window ends.
