Premier League Opinion: 2 realistic PL landing spots for Malcom
According to recent reports from The Sun, La Liga champions Barcelona are looking to offload 22-year-old Brazilian winger Malcom in the upcoming transfer window and it has been claimed that the Catalan giants would prefer to sell to the Premier League.
The youngster joined Barcelona from Ligue 1 side Bordeaux last season for a fairly hefty price but has failed to make any sort of impact with the Nou Camp faithful.
It has also been suggested in the report that Barcelona are looking to offload their man in order to try and fund a summer move for Atletico Madrid stalwart Antoine Griezmann. Malcom has been an outcast since arriving earlier in the campaign and he’s yet to make a place for himself in Ernesto Valverde’s first-team.
It has been reported that a host of clubs are interested in signing the youngster but The Sun are putting north London clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal in the driving seat.
While a fee in the region of £60m is being discussed, the need for wingers is likely to force these two sides to shell out in the summer, irrespective of whether they choose to pursue Malcom or not. The Brazilian’s pacy style of play would certainly be a good fit for Premier League football.
Malcom’s time of the pitch has been quite limited this season and the number of opportunities he’s received to try and impress the managed have been few and far between as well.
Having played just 15 league games all season, the Brazilian’s figures were quite average too. Having got just 2 assists and a goal from the entire La Liga season, it’s likely the Brazilian has played his last game for Barca.
The fact that he was tossed into a team consisting of some of the best players in the world didn’t help his cause while his lack of maturity on the pitch was quite clear to see too.
Despite all of this though, Malcom is the kind of player who is capable of changing a game with a couple moments of magic. Able to change direction and pace very quickly, the youngster is also an assured finisher in the box.
Let’s take a look at how Malcom would fare at these two PL clubs:
Arsenal
The Gunners’ fans have been crying out for new wingers for a few years now and the Arsenal chiefs are yet to deliver.
Having offloaded the man who was arguably their best player in Alexis Sanchez, they brought in Henrikh Mkhitaryan – a move that certainly hasn’t panned out as hoped. Malcom would be an almost inexplicably huge upgrade on Alex Iwobi and they’d do well to snap him up early this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur
Mauricio Pochettino surprised the football world last year by making Spurs the first Premier League club in history to make no additions to their team in the summer transfer window.
While he justified this drastic move by saying he had the right mix of players already, saying that it all went sour would be an understatement. Given their 4th place finish despite all the injuries, the addition of Malcom could be the final piece to the Spurs puzzle.
