Callum Wilson can change Leicester City’s Premier League fortunes

According to the Sun, Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has lined up Bournemouth frontman Callum Wilson as a potential target in a bid to bolster his attacking options next summer.

Bournemouth’s top scorer with 12 goals and 6 assists in all competitions this season, the 27-year-old English international was linked with moves to Chelsea and West Ham in the January transfer window.  (h/t Sun)

Wilson, who is rated at £40million by the south coast club, has been one of the standout performers for Eddie Howe’s side this season. The Englishman has formed a formidable front trio with the likes of Ryan Fraser and Joshua King up front for the Cherries, although his involvement in recent weeks has been limited by a knee injury.

A product of Coventry City’s youth system, Wilson rose to prominence with his boyhood club and spent time on loan at Kettering Town and Tamworth before joining Bournemouth in 2014. He hasn’t looked back since then and has taken his career to greater heights, registering 54 goals and 23 assists from 139 appearances for the Cherries across all competitions.

To put things into perspective, Leicester City would bag a massive coup by getting their hands on Callum Wilson in the summer, with the Foxes struggling to rack up the goals in the Premier League this term. Former manager Claude Puel didn’t manage to get the best out of Jamie Vardy, and while Brendan Rodgers might do a better job with the Englishman next season, the Foxes need another quality centre-forward to add more firepower to their attack.

As evident from Wilson’s displays in the Premier League this season, he is not only a clinical finisher in front of goal but he can also contribute a lot with his ability to set up goals. One of his key attributes is his ability to run in behind defences, whilst his subtle movement and link-up play can also solve Leicester’s lack of activity in the final third.

A fast, agile and powerful striker blessed with well-rounded physical and technical attributes, Wilson is someone who likes to keep the defenders on their toes throughout the ninety minutes. Furthermore, he is also quite clever with his passing and his aerial ability makes him a genuine threat from set-pieces.

Leicester, on the other hand, should not hesitate to get someone like Kelechi Iheanacho off their books. The former Man City striker has had a poor campaign so far and the Foxes should not make the mistake of relying on him for goals next season. Demarai Gray has promised a lot with his pace and flair but Leicester need another specialist centre-forward in their ranks to push for a top-eight finish.

And Callum Wilson certainly fits the bill at the King Power Stadium. Still only 26, Wilson has plenty of years remaining in his prime, and that said, the Foxes should not hesitate to invest in him ahead of the upcoming season.
