Why West Ham should go all out to sign Alfredo Morelos in the summer

Marko Arnautovic was on the verge of leaving West Ham in January but the saga ended with the Austrian putting pen to paper on a new deal. Despite signing a new deal, there are no guarantees whether Arnautovic will stay at West Ham next season or not.

Hence, it’s important for Manuel Pellegrini to start planning for the next season from now on. The Chilean tactician should bolster his attacking options ahead of the upcoming season to prevent any potential burnout of options due to injuries, something that has been one of the major reasons behind the Hammers’ undoing this term.

Javier Hernandez isn’t the quickest of forwards anymore while Andy Carroll is out of contract at the end of the season. Both Hernandez and Carroll have struggled massively with injuries and form this campaign and Pellegrini shouldn’t gamble again by putting his faith in the duo next term.

That said, it’s important West Ham sign a centre-forward this summer and Pellegrini should make a move for Rangers star Alfredo Morelos.

Alfredo Morelos, 22, has been in smashing form for Rangers this season, hitting 28 goals in 40 games in an eventful season for the striker. He has admitted earlier this week that he dreams of playing Premier League football and with the Hammers lacking firepower in their attack, they can very well get a fantastic forward in the stocky Colombian.

His goalscoring record makes him second to none in Scotland and even if he does run the risk of receiving a few red cards, the fact is Alfredo Morelos has established himself as one of the most dangerous strikers in Europe.

In Morelos, West Ham would get a poacher whose instincts are better than most of the young players in the same mould and he has a knack of being at the right place and at the right time to convert the chances. A good reader of the game, the Colombian is blessed with explosive pace and agility and can terrorise defences with his clever off the ball movement.

The combination of his pace and clinical finishing make the 22-year-old a major threat. He can hold the ball up very well due to his stocky frame but his main strengths are the intelligent runs he makes behind the opposition backline and composure in front of goal.

Morelos is only 22 years old but he has already made an impact in the Scottish Premiership. He is a natural goalscorer who will improve with age and time. As things stand, the Hammers signing the Rangers star would be a gamble considering his disciplinary problems but Pellegrini needs to take note of his overall qualities.

That said, West Ham should not hesitate to table a bid to land Morelos in the summer.
