Why Leicester should do everything in their powers to sign Haris Seferovic

Newly-appointed Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers will be aiming to get the best out of his new squad, and the key to his success at the club could lie in his attacking players.

The Foxes have an array of attacking talents, with the likes of Jamie Vardy, Demarai Gray, Harvey Barnes, James Maddison and Rachid Ghezzal all capable of utilizing their pace and tearing apart defences in the Premier League. Failure to get the best out of the aforementioned players plotted Claude Puel’s downfall at King Power Stadium and the Frenchman eventually got the sack.

Now with Rodgers at the helm, the former Celtic manager will look to make Vardy again the main man in the attack after the English striker found going tough under Puel. Rodgers could build his team around Vardy but he also needs to know that Leicester don’t have much firepower up front if the former England international gets injured.

Gray was utilized as a makeshift striker by Puel at times this season but the move didn’t work well. Kelechi Iheanacho has failed to live up to the expectations since moving from Manchester City a couple of years ago, while Shinji Okazaki is out of contract at the end of the season.

Leicester can clearly do well by adding another striker and Rodgers must make a move for Benfica star Haris Seferovic in the summer.

Haris Seferovic, 27, has enjoyed the most prolific campaign in his career this season. He has breathed fire this term, scoring 15 goals and supplying four assists in 20 league games for Benfica. In all, the 27-year-old has netted 19 goals in 38 games across all competition, which is a goal in two games.

The Switzerland international is an aggressive, strong and powerful centre-forward who is a composed finisher in front of goal. Seferovic isn’t exactly a pacy player who can use his speed and agility to breeze past his opponents, he is someone who can hold up the ball up very well and run into the right channels before finishing a move.

The former Real Sociedad and Eintracht Frankfurt man has a good eye for a defence-splitting pass in the attacking third while his ability to keep possession even in tricky situations is also commendable. The left-footed forward’s ability to both finish off chances and link-up well with midfielders coupled with his work-rate, energy and eye for a pass would make him a real asset for the Foxes.

Without any second thoughts, Leicester should go all out to sign Seferovic this summer as he’ll enter the prime years of his career. The Swiss is a vastly experienced player who has the attributes to take the Foxes to a different level altogether under Rodgers next season.
